Community Connection Workshop Descriptions & Lead Teaching Artists
Community Line Dance Experience (Devin Baker, DCDC Rehearsal Director): There’s something extremely communal about a line dance, and creating our own is even more fun! Led by a DCDC Teaching Artist, participants will get warmed up, and choreograph a community line dance together.
DCDC Fit (Sheri “Sparkle” Williams, DCDC Fitness Trainer, 45 Year DCDC Artist): Follow along as DCDC’s Physical Trainer leads an interval training fitness workshop geared for those who are regulars in the gym as well as those new to working out.
DCDC Rep Workshop (Qarrianne Blayr, Associate Artistic Director): Learn an excerpt from one of DCDC’s fan-favorite pieces… the namesake of the Community Connection Series: BodyTalk.
Embodied Conversation: The Debrief (Crystal Michelle, Associate Artistic Director & Resident Choreographer): A conversation and movement practice focused around community, shared human experiences, and the importance of taking care of ourselves in times of both joy and distress.
Intermission: Short Experted Viewing (Artistic Leadership): Join us in viewing a quick snippet of a piece from DCDC Rep, accompanied by a quick chat about the making of the piece, and its relevance to DCDC’s mission and vision.
Our Sacred Dance: Liturgical Workshop (Debbie Blunden- Diggs, Chief Artistic & Producing Director): DCDC Teaching Artist leads participants through a physical exploration of the Gospel/ Spiritual tradition of movement, music, praise and prayer.
Virtual Performance/ Discussion (Artistic Leadership): Co-Choreographed by DCDC Chief Artistic & Producing Director Debbie Blunden- Diggs, and Associate Artistic Director Crystal Michelle, BodyTalk, has quickly become one of the company’s staple pieces. Created as a re-imagining of the stories told by African American playwrights, BodyTalk takes the audience on a literary and emotional journey through time, space and circumstance, and depicts various aspects of the African American experience in this country. Join us for a viewing of the piece, followed by a discussion with the creators and performers of the work.
